Fertilization Guidelines
Before your plants become stable in your environment—establishing roots and leaves—we recommend using HB 101 fertilizer exclusively. Other fertilizers may lead to root burn and subsequent rot during the rehab period. Please note the following recommendations for specific plant types:
- Hoyas: We do not recommend using any fertilizer.
- Philodendron, Syngonium, and Epipremnum: Fertilizer is generally not necessary.
- Variegated Plants: Decrease all fertilizers to half of their recommended amounts to reduce the risk of reverting.
HB 101
- Ideal for fresh cuttings with small root systems and plants needing rehab after travel.
- An all-natural fertilizer that helps plants establish root systems faster.
Osmocote Release Fertilizer (Flower & Vegetable)
- Ideal for general fertilizing. Easy to use.
- Choose the green bottle for flowers and vegetables (14-14-14).
- While other brands of slow-release fertilizer can be used, ensure that Nitrogen (N), Phosphate (P2O5), and Soluble Potash (K2O) are balanced, especially for variegated plants to decrease the risk of reverting.
General Hydroponics Liquid Fertilizer
- Ideal for general fertilizing and promoting faster plant growth.
- This is a mix of six liquid fertilizers. Please follow the order below and ensure thorough mixing to prevent sedimentation.
For one gallon of water, add:
- CALiMAGic (5ml)
- FloraMicro (5ml)
- FloraBloom (5ml)
- FloraGro (5ml)
- DiamondNector (5ml)
- Rapid Start (2ml)
Important Notes:
- For any slow-release fertilizer, a ratio of 1:1:1 of Nitrogen (N): Phosphate (P2O5): Soluble Potash (K2O) is ideal to reduce the risk of reverting.
- Decreasing the amount of all fertilizers to half not only reduces the risk of reverting but also minimizes the risk of root burn from excessive fertilization.
- Do not mix different fertilizers together.
- Before switching to a new fertilizer, ensure that your potting mix or water container/saucer for Pon is completely dry.
