Labisia sp. Kalimantan
Labisia sp. Kalimantan
Description
A rare jewel from the heart of Borneo, with deep velvet leaves and a subtle metallic sheen—perfect for terrarium or cabinet display.
Origin:
Collected from Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo), this unidentified Labisia species showcases the best of the island’s tropical understory: compact growth, velvety textured foliage, and often a dark green to black leaf surface with silver or reddish veins depending on light conditions. Unlike common Labisia pumila forms, this specimen displays more refined proportions and richer coloration, making it a coveted piece among jewel plant collectors.
Care Recommendations:
🌡️ Temperature: 68–80°F (20–27°C)
💧 Humidity: 80% or higher
🌞 Light: Low to medium indirect light (avoid intense light; ideal for terrariums)
Difficulty Level: 3
Additional Notes:
This species thrives in high-humidity, low-airflow environments such as closed terrariums or plant cabinets. Sensitive to overwatering and sudden changes in environment, it prefers a stable, warm setup with a moisture-retentive but well-draining substrate. New leaves emerge with a soft bronze or reddish tint, gradually hardening into the signature dark velvet finish.
